One of the best ways to gain the fundamental knowledge and skills related to food safety is by completing a training course.

In Australia, there are different levels of food safety courses available depending on an individual’s requirements.

Two of the most popular food safety courses completed in Australia are the:

These two courses, which are often a job requirement, must be nationally recognised courses that deliver the required units of competency. As part of this, they will include the core skills necessary to meet all of the industry requirements as decided by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

Although these are courses designed for people who work in the food industry they are also able to be completed by anyone who is looking to improve their food safety knowledge.

However another option for someone who is looking for a course which provides general information regarding basic food safety, there are sometimes non-accredited courses offered by food safety specialists - such as the Introduction to Food Safety course
