It used to be believed that additives to food were very dangerous. People thought that these substances could cause cancer and a whole host of other conditions.
Some people still believe this. However, it is good to note that additives that have passed vigorous scientific testing are completely safe. They will not cause you harm. You may wish to learn more about them.

What are Additives?

Additives are things used in processed foods. Often, they improve the taste of the food, add to the look of the food, or work as a preservative so that the food can remain safe on the shelf for much longer. The actual additive can be chemical or natural. There are many natural additives used, such as:

  • Vitamin C
  • Ascorbic Acid
  • Soya Beans
  • Maize
  • Peanuts

Chemical additives have all passed tests in order to ensure that they are safe for human consumption.

People with Food Intolerances

There are some people who have food intolerances. For them, they could find danger in foods that have certain additives in them. If the person is intolerant to the additive, then they will need to know how to avoid it. The easy way to understand additives most commonly known for food intolerances is available on CSPinet.org. This chart shows you which additives you may need to approach with caution if you have any reason to believe that you have a food intolerance.

It was believed for many years that all food additives are dangerous. However, as more people have become aware of the scientific research, it has become noticeable that additives are not dangerous at all. The only people who need to be aware of specific additives would be those who may have food intolerances. For them, additives in foods could have the potential to make them ill.
